The Needy King and a Sage

A Sage was passing through the capital city of the famous king. While he was walking, he noticed a single currency coin on the road. He picked it up. He was satisfied with his simple living and he had no use of that coin. So, he planned to donate it to the one who is in need of it. He strolled around the streets throughout the day but didn’t find anyone such. Finally, he reached the rest area and spent a night there.
Next morning, he wakes up in the morning for his daily activities and sees that a king is going for his invasion of another state with his war ready army. When the king saw the sage standing, he ordered his army to be stopped. He came to the Sage and said, “Oh Great Sage, I am going to war to win another state so that my state can be expanded. So bless me to be victorious”.
After thinking, Sage gave a single currency coin to the king! The king was confused and annoyed with this because what use he has for a single coin while he is already one of the richest kings! He curiously asked a sage, “what’s the meaning of this one coin?”
A Sage explained, “Oh Great King! I found this coin yesterday while strolling around the streets of your capital city. But I had no use of it. So, I had decided that I will donate it to someone needy. I strolled around till the evening in your capital, but found no one such. Everyone was living a happy life. It seemed that they were satisfied with what they had. So I found no one to give this coin. But today, the king of this state, still have the desire to gain more and not satisfied with what he already has, I felt you were in need of this coin.”
The King realized his mistake and gave up the planned war.
Moral: We all should learn to be happy with what we have. Yes, we all desire more or better than we already have, but do not waste a chance of enjoying what you already have. There are those who may not have what you have, and there will be some who have lots more than you have. Do not always compare, be happy and lead a healthy life. The Last Delivery

There was a rich couple who was throwing a big new year party at their house.  So they went shopping at the market where everything was of high cost and fixed price.  They wanted to maintain their level of standard so didn’t mind paying for it.  After purchasing all they needed, they called a porter to carry everything and drop it at their home.  The porter who came was of an old age, not very healthy looking, his clothes were torn, looked as if he wasn’t even able to meet his daily needs.
They asked the porter about the charges for delivering their goods at their home.  The old porter quoted just a $20, a well below the market rate for delivering goods at couple’s home in his cart.  Yet, the couple argued and bargained with the porter and finally settled for $15.  The porter was struggling to make even one time’s meal so he needed anything he can earn.
The couple was very happy thinking how well they bargained with the poor porter and paid him $15 in advance and left after giving the porter their address for delivery.  They reached their home and hour passed, two hours passed, but the porter still hadn’t delivered their stuff.

The wife started to get angry at her husband, “I always tell you to not to trust such person still, you never listen to me.  Such person who is not even able to earn to feed himself for 1 time in a day, you handed him everything we purchased for our big party.  I am sure instead of delivering at our home, he must have disappeared with everything.  We must immediately go back to the market to inquire and then to the police station to file the complaint against him”.
They both left towards the market.  On their way near the market, they saw another porter.  They stopped him to inquire about the old porter and noticed that he was carrying their stuff in his cart!  The angry wife asked him, “Where is that old thief?  This is our stuff and he supposed to deliver it.  It seems you poor thieves are stealing our stuff and going to sell it”.
The porter replied, “Madam, Please calm down.  That poor old man was sick since last month.  He wasn’t able to earn enough to even have a single meal of the day.  He was on the way to deliver your stuff, but he who was hungry, sick, couldn’t gather the strength to go any further in this heat of the noon”.  He fell down and while handing me $15, his last words were, “I had taken an advance for this delivery, you take this and please deliver to this address”.
“Madam, He was hungry, he was poor, but he was an honest man. I was just on the way to complete old man’s last delivery at your home”, the porter said. Upon hearing this, the husband had tears in his eyes, but the wife felt so ashamed, she had no courage to see up in her husband’s eyes.
Moral: Honesty has no class. Respect everyone regardless of their financial and social status. It’s always a good deed to give the one who deserves.

The Needs and Desires

Once upon a time, there lived a King who, despite his luxurious lifestyle, was neither happy nor content.  One day, the King came upon a servant who was singing happily while he worked. This fascinated the King, why was he, the Supreme Ruler of the Land, unhappy and gloomy, while a lowly servant had so much joy.  The King asked the servant, “Why are you so happy?”
The man replied, “Your Majesty, I am nothing but a servant, but my family and I don’t need too much, just a roof over our heads and warm food to fill our tummies.”  The king was not satisfied with that reply.  Later in the day, he sought the advice of his most trusted advisor.  After hearing the King’s woes and the servant’s story, the advisor said, “Your Majesty, I believe that the servant has not been made part of The 99 Club.”
“The 99 Club? And what exactly is that?” the King inquired.  The advisor replied, “Your Majesty, to truly know what The 99 Club is, place 99 Gold coins in a bag and leave it at this servant’s doorstep.”  So the King ordered to do it.  When the servant saw the bag, he took it into his house.  When he opened the bag, he let out a great shout of joy, So many gold coins!  He began to count them.  After several counts, he was at last convinced that there were 99 coins.  He wondered, “What could’ve happened to that last gold coin? Surely, no one would leave 99 coins!”

He looked everywhere he could, but that final coin was elusive.  Finally, exhausted, he decided that he was going to have to work harder than ever to earn that gold coin and complete his collection.  From that day, the servant’s life was changed. He was overworked, horribly grumpy, and castigated his family for not helping him make that 100th gold coin.  He stopped singing while he worked.  Witnessing this drastic transformation, the King was puzzled.  When he sought his advisor’s help, the advisor said, “Your Majesty, the servant has now officially joined The 99 Club.”
He continued, “The 99 Club is a name given to those people who have enough to be happy but are never content, because they’re always yearning and striving for that extra 1 telling to themselves, “Let me get that one final thing and then I will be happy for life.”
Moral:  We can be happy, even with very little in our lives, but the minute we’re given something bigger and better, we want even more! We lose our sleep, our happiness, we hurt the people around us, all these as a price for our growing needs and desires.  We must learn to maintain a balance of our need and desires to enjoy a happy life with what we already have.

Student Learns of a Greed

A student asked his teacher, “What is Greed?” The teacher said, “In order to answer your question, go through the chocolate factory next to our school and pick the one chocolate you like the most. But there is a rule. As you pass through the factory, you can not turn back. You must pick the chocolate as you go forward only.”
The student went to the chocolate factory. As he walked through, He saw the one chocolate wrapped nicely, he instantly liked it but he wondered that he may find much bigger one further. So, He walked further, then he saw another chocolate. But again, he thought the same. When he started to reach near the end of the factory, he couldn’t see any chocolates as big as the one he didn’t pick earlier and started to regret his decision of letting it go.
Finally, he gave up. He went back to the teacher with an empty hand and gave an explanation of what he did.
The teacher told him, “You did like the one chocolate very much but still you kept looking for a bigger one. And later you realized that what you let go off was the best chocolate you could find there. That my dear is called Greed.”
Moral: We let go of many good things in our life because of our greed of having even better things. Our Human Nature is such that we always want better and better. But in the search of better, we let go of many good things which could have given us similar satisfaction and made us happy. Learn make your choice wisely.

Happiness and Sorrow

A man who has gone out of his town comes back and finds that his house is on fire. It was one of the most beautiful houses in the town, and the man loved the house the most! Many were ready to give a double price for the house, but he had never agreed for any price and now it is just burning before his eyes. And thousands of people have gathered, but nothing can be done, the fire has spread so far that even if you try to put it out, nothing will be saved. So he became very sad.
His son comes running and whispers something in his ear, “Don’t be worried. I sold it yesterday and at a very good price. The offer was so good, I could not wait for you. Forgive me.”
The Father said, “thank God, it’s not ours now!” Then he became relaxed and stood as a silent watcher, just like 1000s of other watchers.
Then the second son comes running, and he says to the father, “What are you doing? the house is on fire and you are only watching it burn?” The father said, “Don’t you know, your brother has sold it.”
He said, “we have taken only advance amount, not settled fully. I doubt now that the man is going to purchase it now.”
Tears which had disappeared came back to the father’s eyes, his heart started to beat fast. And then the third son comes, and he says, “That man is a man of his word. I have just come from him.” He said, “It doesn’t matter whether the house is burnt or not, it is mine. And I am going to pay the price that I have settled for. Neither you knew, nor I knew that the house would catch on fire.”
Then all just stood and watched the house burn without a worry.
Moral:  This is a very complicated human nature to describe. Even though person here loved his house which he lost, became relaxed knowing it was not his anymore. He never wanted to give it away till it was beautiful but, as soon as it started to lose its beauty, he didn’t mind letting it go for a profit.   Sorrow and Happiness followed after each son came with their advice. But, most important thing to understand is, how his feeling changed.  How the ratio of loss and profit changed his feelings towards a house, which he loved the most.  This is how in present time we have come to give a priority to our relations and friendship – based on loss or profit ratio.  Everyone should understand this story and put their own moral.

The Golden Egg

Once upon a time, there lived a cloth merchant in a village with his wife and two children. They were indeed quite well-off. They had a beautiful hen which laid an egg every day. It was not an ordinary egg, rather, a golden egg. But the man was not satisfied with what he used to get daily. He was a get rich-trice kind of a person.
The man wanted to get all the golden eggs from his hen at one single go. So, one day he thought hard and at last clicked upon a plan. He decided to kill the hen and get all the eggs together.
So, the next day when the hen laid a golden egg, the man caught hold of it, took a sharp knife, chopped off its neck and cut its body open.  There was nothing but blood all around & no trace of any egg at all. He was highly grieved because now he would not get even one single egg.

His life was going on smoothly with one egg a day but now, he himself made his life miserable. The outcome of his greed was that he started becoming poorer & poorer day by day and ultimately became a pauper. How jinxed and how much foolish he was.
Moral: One who desires more, loses all. One should remain satisfied with what one gets.

The greedy farmer

Once upon a time there was a wealthy farmer in a far away village. The farmer was so greedy that he wanted all the good things for himself. Then one day he was offered a deal. He was told that he would be given the length of the land he walk in a day as long as he came back to the point where he started before sunset.
Once upon a time there was a wealthy farmer in a far away village. The farmer was so greedy that he wanted all the good things for himself.
Then one day he was offered a deal. He was told that he would be given the length of the land he walk in a day as long as he came back to the point where he started before sunset.
To get a head start, early the next morning, the farmer started to cover ground quickly because he wanted to get as much land as possible.
He walked for a very long distance and even when he was tired, he kept walking all afternoon.
He did so because he did not want to miss this “once-in-a-lifetime” chance to gain more wealth.
Later in the evening, he remembered that the condition to get the land was to get back to the starting point before sunset. Unfortunately, his greed had taken him very far away from the starting point.
He immediately began his return journey keeping an eye on how fast the sun was setting. The closer it came to sunset, the faster he ran. He was exhausted and out of breath, but he continued up to the extent of pushing himself beyond the point of endurance.
When he finally reached the starting point before the sun had set, he collapsed and died. All that the farmer needed was only a small plot of land on which he was buried, even after walking such a long distance.
Lesson
The moral of the story to children is to avoid being greedy because greed can make you struggle for things you do not need. Greed makes you fight for things at all cost without caring about your health and the well being of others just like the farmer was.
Let’s learn to be contented with what we have and also learn to share the little we have.

Greedy Man and Farmer Story..!!

Once upon a time, in a village lived a rich man who had lost his bag of gold coins on street on his way back to home. He tried to look for it everywhere but couldn’t find it. He became sad and disappointed. At last, he went to village headman and after listening to his query headman issued a notice, “Person who finds and return that gold coin bag to rich man will be rewarded with ten gold coins..” In evening an honest poor farmer found that gold coins bag and reported that to rich man.

On receiving the bag rich man opened it and counted his coins. Just then poor man asked for reward of ten gold coins. After receiving his gold coin bag rich man got little greedy and didn’t wanted to give any money to poor man so he thought of a plan and said, “What coins?? You are really clever.. I have checked my bag and you have already taken your reward from this bag..” Poor farmer was shocked and replied, “But.. I haven’t opened this bag at all..”
Rich man accused poor man of stealing coins from his bag. Case was taken to village headman.

Headman asked rich man,” How many coins were in your bag??” Rich man replied, “i had total 110 gold coins in my bag when i lost it but now there are only 100 coins, in this bag now..”
Poor farmer replied, “But i haven’t opened this bag.” Now headman questioned poor farmer and understood whole case and said to rich man, “You said bag you lost contained 110 coins but this bag contains only 100 coins.. That means this is not your bag.” Saying this village headman gave that old coin bag to poor farmer as reward for his honesty and rich man had to return empty handed because of his greed and lie.

Moral: Honesty is Rewarded and Greediness is Punished. Therefore

We should not be Greedy and Cheat others..

Worth of Lump of Gold..!
There was a man who only cared about money. He didn’t even spend money to buy bare necessities of life. He collected a large sum of money. He spend all his money to buy a lump of gold. Man buried that gold in a secret place in his house. Everyday he used to check that lump of gold daily to make sure that it was still there. One day one of his helper saw him examining that gold. Man was not aware that he was being watched. After some days man had to go away from home to do some work. Helper knew that and dug out the gold and fled. When he came he went to check his lump of gold and found that it had been stolen. His hard earn wealth was now stolen by thief. Man cried in grief. Man neighbors learned about his loss.

His neighbors came to console him. They saw man’s grief and advised him to bury a piece of stone in that hole in place of that gold. Because he never intended to use that gold. So, there was no difference between lump of gold and piece of stone and he should regards it as his gold.

Moral: A miser person never learn to enjoy his life and at last suffers because of his misery. We should learn to live life instead of focusing on just collecting materialistic things.

 Baker’s Trade with Farmer..!!

Once there was a farmer who used to trade with a baker. He used to sell him butter. One day baker decided to weigh the pound of butter farmer sold him but baker found that the butter was not weighing pound. He felt cheated and this angered him. Baker took the case to the court. In court judge asked the farmer about if he was using any way to measure the butter before selling it to baker. To this farmer replied, “Sir, i don’t have proper equipment to measure but i do have a scale. Judge asked him, “Then how did you weigh butter?” Farmer replied, “Your honor, Before i started to sell butter to baker. I used to buy a pound of bread loaf from him. After i decided to start selling butter to him. I brought bread from baker and put it on scale to measure butter and give him same weight in butter.” Now judge knew who was the real defaulter.

Moral: When ever we take action against another person we should ask our self if we are doing right thing. What if same thing to be happen to us would we still feel same?? If we deceive another its like deceiving ourselves because with time dishonesty can become a habit.

Is this what i taught him?”, Little boy’s mother said in sad voice.

Neighbor asked his Mother to calm down and then she turned to boy and said, “Stealing is bad habit. Even if you steal small things, It’s not good. God is always watching us.” “I took out sweets from plate assuming that God was not watching me, just like the way my mother mix water in milk everyday before selling it and asked me not to tell anyone. I never tell anyone about her secret but now she is beating me and not keeping my secret.”, said little boy sobbing. Mother realized her mistake and then instead of beating him, she apologized to boy for her bad behavior and promised to be an honest person.

Moral: Kids Follow what their Parents Do and Not what their Parents Say. Kids Reflect their Parent’s Characteristics, So we should be Careful with our Actions.

Admit your Mistakes – Little Boy Story

Once there was a little boy name Steve and his elder sister Neena, went to visit their grandparents on their farm. Steve loved to play with his slingshot. So one day he took his slingshot and went towards wood to practice with it. There he tried many times but could never hit target. It got late and he headed back for dinner. While walking back, he saw Grandma’s pet duck and just out of impulse, he shot toward it with his slingshot and shockingly it hit duck in the head and killed it. Steve got scared. He didn’t had courage to tell his Grandma about it and In panic, he hid his Grandma’s dead pet duck in wood pile but his sister Neena saw all. When they returned for dinner, Neena didn’t said anything about duck.

Next day, after lunch Grandma called Neena and asked her to wash dishes. Just then she said, “Grandma, my little brother told me that he wanted to help in the kitchen.” Steve was surprised to hear this but just then she whispered to Steve, “Remember the duck?” Steve was scared of revealing truth. So he did the dishes. Later that day, Grandpa asked kids to go fishing with them. Listening to this Grandma said, “Neena can’t go as i want her to stay here with me and help with dinner preparation.”. Just then Neena said, “Well that’s all right.
I will go and My little brother can do all the work because he said he wanted to help.” Saying this she gestured toward his brother threatening him to reveal truth about duck to grandparents. Steve go scared and again agreed to help with chores that were to be done by his sister.

So Neena went wishing and boy stayed to help. Now whenever Grandma would ask Neena for help, she would just ask Steve to do that work. This went on for days, Steve did all chores for both himself and his sister. Finally he couldn’t stand it any longer. He came to his Grandma and confessed about duck and told her that he had killed the duck. Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug and said, “Sweetheart, i know. I saw whole thing. I was standing at window when all that happened and because it was mistake and i love you, I forgave you. I was wondering how long you would let your sister make a slave of you.”

Meaning: If you have Done anything Wrong by Mistake, You should Admit it and apologize for your mistake and do things to Make it Right.

Nail And Fence Story

A Little Boy who Lived with his Father and Mother in a Small Village. He was only son in his family. Boy’s Parents were Depressed due to his Bad Temper. The boy used to get angry very soon and Taunt other kids and use angry words. He used to scold kids, friends, neighbors. Because of this his parents got worried. As even if Boy himself Forgot what he spoke in Anger but his Friends and neighbors remembered that and avoid him. His parents tried many ways to console him and his anger and develop kindness but all got in vain. Finally his Father came up with an idea. One day His father called him and gave him a bag full of nails. He asked him to hammer one nail to the fence every time he gets angry. At that time little boy found this hilarious But still accepted to do so.

On very first day, the nails he hammered to the fence were 30. Now, every time he lost temper he used to ran toward the fence and hammer a nail to it. As the little boy found this very difficult and decided to control his temper. Gradually, the number of nails he used to hammered reduced in several days and the day arrived when no nail was hammered to the fence. He told his father that it was several days that he did not hammer any nail and he did not lose his temper! Now, his father told him to remove the nails every day as he had controlled his anger. In Some days the boy was able to pull out most of the nails from the fence.
However, there remained a few nails that the boy could not pull out. The boy told his father about the same. The father appreciated him and asked him pointing to the hole, “What do you see there?” Boy replied ” a Hole in the Fence ” He told the boy, “The nails were your bad temper and they were hammered on people. You can remove the nails but still see the holes in the fence. Again, you cannot pull out a few nails. The fence never look the same! It has scars all over! You can stab a man with a knife, but the wound will remain there forever. Words are more painful than physical abuse! Use words for good. Use them to embrace the relationships. Use them to show your heart!”

Moral: Inappropriate Verbal Usage Would Cause Permanent Marks Than Physical Damage..!! So, Let Our Words be Kind and Sweet.

Teacher Student Conversation
“On a ship there was a pair of couple, suddenly ship met with an accident and couple had to run to life boat. After reaching there they realized that there was space only for one person. At that moment, husband pushed wife behind him and jumped on to lifeboat himself. His wife stood on sinking ship shouted one sentence to her husband.” Teacher stopped and asked her students, “What do you think shouted?” Most students answered, “I hate you!!” Now, after listening to all this reply she noticed that there was a boy sitting silently throughout. She asked him to answer for same.

Boy answered, “Teacher. I believe shoe would have shouted – Take care of our child.” Listening to this teacher was surprised and asked boy, “Have you heard this story before?” Boy shook his head in No and said, “No i haven’t but that’s what my mother told my father before she died because of disease.” Teacher lamented, “Your answer is right.” She continued, “The ship sank, Man went home and bought up their daughter alone. Many years later after the death of man. Daughter was tiding up all his belonging where she found out his dairy. In dairy she found that when her parents when on to ship, her mother was already diagnosed with terminal illness and at critical moment (while ship was sinking) father rushed to the only chance of survival.” In his dairy man wrote about how he wished he could sink to the bottom of ocean with his wife but for sake of their daughter he had to live. Story was finished and class was silent. Teacher knew that students has understood the moral of story.

Moral: Of the Good and Evil in this world, There are many complications behind them which are Hard to Understand, So we should not really focus on surface and Judge anyone without understanding them first.

Three Toys – Trust and Friendship Story

In a Class, Teacher came in with Three toys ( all looked identical in shape, size and material ) and showed them to students. After all students saw them, she asked if they can find any difference in them. After keen observations, students observe that there were holes in all the toys. In 1st toy there were holes in ears. In 2nd toy holes were in ear ad mouth. In 3rd toy there was only one hole and it was in ear. After this teacher, asked students to put needle in the ear hole of each toy. In 1st toy the needle put in first ear hole came out of from the other ear.

First toy represents those people who gives the expression that listen to you, all your things and show as they care for you but they just pretend to do so. The things you said to them counting on them are gone. In the 2nd toy, when the needle was put in ear the needle came out of mouth. Second toy represents those people who listen to you but these people will use things and the words you tell them against you by telling it to others and bringing out the confidential issues for their own purpose. In 3rd toy when the needle was put in the ear hole and needle didn’t came out. Third toy, the needle does not come out from it. These kinds of people will keep the trust you have in them. They are the ones who you can count on.

Moral: Always Stay in Company of People who are Loyal and Trustworthy. People, who Listen to what you tell them, are not Always the ones you can Count on when you need them the most.

When he opened his eyes, he saw that his room was filled with light. Just then God appeared before him, showed him a large rock outside his house and told him to push that rock with all his might. Next morning when man woke up, he remembered what he saw that night. He got outside and pushed it with all his might but wasn’t able to move it. Despite it man didn’t give up and from that day he made his routine to push that rock daily with all his might. For many years he toiled from sun up to sun down, his shoulders set squarely against the cold, massive surface of that large rock, pushing with all of his might.

Each night the man returned to his cabin sore and worn out, feeling that his whole day had been spent in vain as that rock never moved a bit even after many years. Not seeing any progress, man started to get discourage and just then devil showed up in his dream and said, “You have been pushing that rock for long time but it hasn’t moved.. Why to go through all that pain? It’s impossible to move that rock that’s why It’s better to leave it at this and live easy life..” Saying this devil disappeared. Man was disheartened but still he decided to pray to God and tell him about his troubled thoughts. He prayed, “I have labored  long and hard in your service, putting up all my strength for what you have asked me to do and yet after all this time. I have not even budged that rock by millimeter.. What am i doing wrong?? Why am i failing?”

Just than God appeared and said, “My child, i asked you to serve me and you accepted it. I told you to push that rock but i never said that i expected you to move it..!! Your task was to push and After all these your you think you have failed but is it really so?? Look at yourself, Your arms are strong and muscled, your back sinewy and brown, your hands are callused from constant pressure, your legs have become massive and hard. Rohit was traveling from one city to another but he missed his morning train. So while waiting he thought of having breakfast. He went out of station and started walking toward a near by hotel to eat. On his way he saw two kids sitting on sidewalk. There condition was not looking good and by look on their face he could guess that they were very hungry. He felt bad for them and gave them 10r and left. After this, as he was walking toward hotel he thought to himself, “How stupid of me..!! I gave them just 10rs.. What can they buy to eat with it, When i can’t even get a cup of tea with 10rs.” He felt ashamed of himself and went back to those kids. He asked them if they would like to eat at hotel with him.

Kids were confused and looked at each other. As they were very hungry, they accepted his offer. When kids were at the hotel, Hotelier stopped them from entering as their clothes were too dirty and torn. Seeing this Rohit went to him and asked him to allow those kids to enter as they were with him and he is going to pay for their food. Seeing this Hotelier understood whole situation and felt ashamed at his act of stopping those kids from entering. They got inside and got seated comfortably. After this Rohit asked kids, “What do you want to eat.” Kids kept silent. Rohit ordered food. As soon as food came, he saw smile on face of boys and felt happy. When the children started eating, the happiness of their face was somewhat different. After having food.
They returned back. Before leaving Rohit handed them some more money and asked them to buy some clothes. Whole incident was over. Rohit was back to his normal routine but even after many days he couldn’t stop thinking about those boys and felt bad for them. One day while visiting temple he said, “God, Where are you?? How can you sit quietly when there are children like them who are suffering from hunger..” Just in next moment a thought struck his mind, “Who had been providing food for them until now??
What i did for those boys, could i have done that with my own thinking??” At that moment he realized and understood that ever we do is just a part of God’s Plan. Whenever we Help someone it’s because God find us worthy to help someone, he send us to help that person.

Father Son Story – Earning Money

Once in a city lived a very successful businessman. His only son who was still a young boy was lazy and fun loving. His son used to spend money with free hands and never even did any help in any work at home. Businessman wanted his son to learn about value of labor. So one day he called his son and said, “From today onward you will be given meals at night only if you will bring some earning for that day.” First boy was confused but when he saw his father’s serious face he knew how serious he was about what he said.
Boy got scared and went to his mother. Boy told everything about this to his mother. Mother didn’t wanted her boy to get troubled or skip his night meal. So that day she gave him a gold coin. At night on dinner table when father asked son about his earning for the day. Boy promptly presented him that gold coin. Seeing that gold coin father understood that he didn’t earn that money.

He asked boy to threw that coin into the well in the courtyard. Without any hesitation boy went out and threw that coin into well and then had his meal. Next day early in morning father sent his wife out of town to her parent’s house. When boy woke up father reminded boy about condition for night meal and also told him about mother’s trip to her parent’s house.
Knowing that mother is not there to give him money, he went to his grandfather. Grandfather gave him some coins. At night father asked him about money, boy gave him coins. He again asked him to throw those coins into well. Again without hesitating boy threw those coins into well and came back to dinner table for meal. Father knew that their was no one else who could gave him money. So before going to bed he went to grandfather and told him about condition.
Grandfather understood and next day went out so that boy don’t come to him for money. In morning father again reminded him about condition for meal. Boy went looking for his grand father but couldn’t find him. This time since there was no one to help him, boy was forced to go to market in search of work. After much time one shopkeeper agreed to give him some work. Shopkeeper told him that he would pay him 10rs if he carried his trunk for him to his home. Boy couldn’t refuse and was drenched in sweat by the time he finished the job. His feet were trembling and his neck and back were aching. In evening when he returned home he went to his father and gave him those 10rs.

Even this time father asked him to throw it in the well. Boy could not imagine throwing his hard earned money like this. So boy refused to throw this money and almost cried. Son sobbingly said to his father, “Father..!! My entire body is aching. My back has rashes and you are asking me to throw the money into the well.” Father smiled and said, “One feels the pain only when the fruits of hard labor are wasted. Earlier you got coins without any hard work from your mother and grandfather so you had no pain in throwing coins into the well.” Son now realized the value of hard work and labor. He understood his mistake and thanked his father for the valuable lesson.

Facing Challenges in Life – Student’s Test..!!

Once a teacher asked his two students to come and meet him at start of a track which was near a forest. Students reached there on decided time and greeted their teacher. Teacher showed them track and said, “You both have to start here and reach end point of track.. Completing this track will also affect the result of test which will happen next week..” He wished them luck and started race.. Both of them started together. Just after a while students saw that track was divided into two path. First student decided to follow path which seemed clear and was easier to go through. Where as second student decided to go by path which was not so easy as it was blocked by fallen logs and other obstacles.

First student finished first and felt clever as he came first and passed that track easily avoiding all the hindrances and obstacles of other path. Second student took a while to reach end point as he had to pass through that path battling obstacles in that path. Second student was happy that he was able to complete that race despite taking difficult path. When second student reached end point, first student proudly said, “I am glad i chose easier path as they would have only slow me down..”

Teacher smiled and asked them to join him at specific location for next week test. Next week student and teacher meet at decided location. For next test students were called near a ravine. Teacher looked at students and said, “You have to jump to other side of this ravine..” Students were taken back as the distance was few meter wide. First student saw the width of ravine and couldn’t get courage to jump it as he never did that before. He got scared and stepped back from test. Then teacher looked at second student. Second student remembered his track of his last test and how he jumped wide gaps there.

He measured his run up, sprinted towards the ravine and launched himself into the air.. and He Made It…!! After completing test, Teacher said to first student, “In your previous test the difficult path was made such a way that completing it would have prepared you for this one. When you chose easier path it helped you to complete that test easily but you were not able to prepare for tougher exams.”

Moral: Whenever you Face any difficulties in Life, You shouldn’t get scared and understand that life is meant to be a series of challenges that we overcome, not avoid.   Don’t pray that God will remove the obstacles, pray that he will give you the strength to overcome them.

Problems in Life – Hundred Camels Story…!!

In district of Rajasthan lived a man who was always troubled by one or other problem and was not happy with his life. One day, he got to know that a saint with his convoy has come to city. Man decided to go to saint. In evening he went to his place and after waiting for a while, he got to meet saint. He said, “Baba, i am very unhappy with my life. I am surrounded by problem all the time… office tension, health problem, problems at home… Please tell me a way so that my all problem ends and i can live a peaceful and happy life.” Saint smiled and said, “Son, I will give you a solution tomorrow morning.. but meanwhile can you do me a small job of mine?”

Man agreed. Saint continued, “There are hundred camels in our convey.. I want that tonight you take care of them.. When all hundred camels sit down, then you too go to sleep.” Saying this Saint went to his tent and man went to look after camel for night. Next morning Saint went to man and asked, “Son, did you have good sleep last night??” Man became sad and replied, “Baba, i couldn’t even sleep for a moment. I tried a lot but i couldn’t get all camels to sit together at a time. Some sat down themselves but some wouldn’t sit even if i try and if one sit other gets up on other side.” Saint smiled and said, “If am not wrong, this is what happened last night?? 1. There were many camels who sat themselves at night. 2. Many others sat because of your efforts. 3. Others didn’t sit even after trying to make them sit… and then later you found that some of them sat themselves with time.. Man replied, “Yes.. Yes..!!” Saint continued, “Now, do you understood something?? Problems in our life are just like that..
1. Some will solve themselves. 2. Some will be solved with your efforts 3. Some will not be solved even with efforts.. leave these problems on time.. They will solve at right time by themselves.. Last night you experienced that no matter how much you try but you can’t get all camels to sit at same time. If you make one camel sit then other will be standing somewhere else.. In the same way if you solve a problem then you will see another problem standing there. It’s life. Problems are part of life, sometimes it’s less and sometime there are too many problems. Happiness and misery are only confusion.. Problems are part of life, but this doesn’t mean that you keep thinking about them… You keep them aside and keep moving forward… learn to grow towards the purpose of life (self-realization)..!!”

Number of Apples? – Teacher Student Story

Once a Math teacher was teaching to class of six years old. She asked a boy, “If i give you one apple and one apple and one more apple then how many apples will you have?” With in seconds boy confidently replied, “Four.” Dismayed teacher was expecting an effortless answer – Three.

She thought may be boy hadn’t listen to question carefully. So she said to boy, “Please listen carefully this time. It’s very simple. You will be able to answer correctly if you pay attention.” Then she repeated, “If i give you one apple and one apple and one more apple then how many apples will you have?” This time, to be sure boy counted on finger and hesitatingly replied, “Four.” Listening to wrong answer again, teacher got disappointed. Her disappoint could be seen on her face. She remembered that boy loved strawberries. She thought may be if she change question and use strawberries instead of apple than may be he will pay attention and answer correctly. This time with exaggerated excitement and twinkling eyes she asked, “If i give you one strawberry and one strawberry and then one more strawberry, then how many will you have?” Boy calculated on his finger again and with hesitating smile he replied, “Three?” Teacher was happy.

Her approach worked and boy was able to answer right. So, once again she asked him, “Now, If i give you one apple and one apple and one more apple then how many apples will you have?” Promptly boy answered, “Four.” Teacher was aghast. “How? Tell me. How?”, teacher asked with irritated voice. In low and hesitatingly voice, boy innocently replied, “Because i already have one apple in my bag.” Learning: When Someone gives you an Answer that is Different from what you are Expecting, It is not Necessarily They are Wrong. There may be an Angle that we may not have Understood at all. We need to Learn to Appreciate and Understand different perspectives. Quite often, We Try and Impose our Perspectives on Others and Then wonder what went Wrong.

Criticism Story – Teacher’s Lesson..!!

In a class, when all students were present, math teacher wrote on board:
 9 x 1 = 9
9 × 2 = 18
 9 × 3 = 27
 9 × 4 = 36
9 × 5 = 45
9 × 6 = 54
9 × 7 = 63
9 × 8 = 72
9 × 9 = 81
9 × 10 = 89
After writing this, she faced toward children. She saw that students were laughing at her. She asked them reason for laughing. Firstly, students hesitated but then one of them stood up and said, “Teacher, You wrote last line of table wrong..”

“It’s not 9 x 10 = 89, it’s 9 x 10 = 90”, saying this student giggled. Listening to this teacher smiled and said, “I have written last line incorrectly for a purpose and because i want to teach you all something very important.” Teacher continued, “You can see that i have written right 9 times but no one appreciated it.. Everyone of you noticed mistake i did and laughed at me because of it.. World is like this.. So here is my advice for all of you: Most People in world are like this, they will not appreciate thousands of Good Deed done by you but will definitely criticize even a single mistake done by you.. No one is Perfect and we all make Mistakes. So even if People Criticize you, Don’t let it put you down. Always do Good and Help Others even if no one notice it Because even a Small Good Deed done by you will be Big help for person in need.”

Oil Lamp and Traveler – Chanakya Story of Patriotism

Once a traveler came to meet Chanakya. When traveler reached Chanakya’s home, dusk and darkness had just started to set in. When traveler entered inside, he saw that Chanakya was busy writing some papers under the light of an oil lamp (Because in those time there was no electricity). Chanakya smiling welcomed guest and asked him to sit and then he quickly completed work he was doing. Just after completing this work. Chanakya extinguished oil lamp under which he was doing work and then lit another lamp.

Traveler was surprised to see this but he thought may be this was a custom followed by Indians when guest arrives. Still traveler got curious and asked, “Is this a custom India, when guest arrives at your house?” Chanakya questioned, “What custom?” Traveler replied, “I mean extinguishing one lamp and lighting up another lamp?”

Chanakya replied, “No, my dear friend. There is no such custom. Actually when you entered, i was working for an official work, pertaining to my empire, my nation. This oil filled in this lamp was bought from the money of National treasury. But now, i am talking to you. This is my personal and friendly conversation, not any work related to my nation. So i can not use that lamp now, as it will lead to wastage of money from National treasury. Hence, i extinguished that lamp and lit this other lamp, since oil on this lamp has been bought from my personal money.”

He collected enough money to raise an army for Chandragupta. He taught them about battle strategies and taught Chandragupta all about rights and duties of a King. Chanakya remembered how he was insulted in kingdom of King Nanda and decided to attack his kingdom first. Chandragupta army was inexperienced compared to King Nanda’s Army and was not able to stand up to them. As result, Chandragupta was defeated and had to flee along with Chanakya and hid in woods.

One day as Chanakya entered village in search of food, he passed by a hut. There he heard excited voice of a child. Chanakya saw that mother was serving him hot rice porridge. As soon as, boy started to eat rice porridge, he started to cry saying that his fingers got burnt. Seeing this, mother said, “Of course, they will get burnt because you acted as foolish as Chanakya.” Intrigued and curious Chanakya entered into room and before woman could say anything he said, “Sorry to barge in like this but i just came in to inquire meaning of your words.” Woman was surprised but still replied, “I was merely telling this kid to eat properly. I served him hot rice porridge and he should have realized that it was hottest at the center and start eating from outer fringe which cools down first.”

“Yes, i get that but what has it do with Chanakya’s foolishness?”, questioned Chanakya. Woman replied, “Everything. Chanakya is foolish, he went and attacked Nanda’s kingdom at the outset instead of conquering small kingdoms all around before going to the center. Just like a child trying to eat hot porridge from middle..! That’s why Chanakya lost and had to flee.” Chanakya was surprised and humbly replied, “Thank you mother. You have taught me a wonderful lesson in war strategy. I shall not make same mistake second time.” Saying this Chanakya left. Later he reorganized their army and set about conquering small kingdom first and eventually succeeded in ousting Nanda’s kingdom from Pataliputra.

Villagers wanted to respect all creatures but they hate that snake because snake was not just attacking animals but now it used to attack villagers children also. All villagers wanted to kill snake. So one day all villagers gathered on the field and started shouting and drumming and with stones and sticks started to search for that snake. A holy man who used to live on out skirts of that village heard all the sound and came to village and asked, “What is this all about??” Villagers told him about snake and his acts. After listening to all, holy man replied, “If this snake does not attack your children or hunt your animals then will you think about sparing its life??”

Some villagers wanted revenge but some just wanted to get rid of snake so agreed. Holy man entered the field and with his powers commanded snake to come and it came crawling to the feet of holy man. Snake hissed and asked holy man about him calling out. Holy man replied, “There is enough food in jungle and you need not to attack animals or children of village for this.” There was kindness in holy man’s voice and Snake didn’t hissed and just nodded in front of holy man and promised that it will not ever again attack villagers. Soon villagers discovered that snake would no longer harm anyone and there were some villagers who wanted to take revenge from that snake for whatever he did in the past.

So villagers started attacking that snake and it would have to hid itself. One day snake heard holy man walking by and with it’s weak body it crawled to holy man. Seeing its condition holy man asked, “What happened to you??” Snake replied, “After i promised not to bite anyone. Soon villagers started to attack me and i had to hid myself under the rock to keep myself safe from their attacks. Why is this happening to me??” Holy man stood silently and then in low voice replied, “You are such a fool! You don’t know how to protect yourself. I asked you not to bite but I didn’t forbid you to hiss. Why didn’t you scare them by hissing?” Snake understood his mistake and slithered away hissing.

Disciple was perplexed by those last words. He was not able to understand it’s meaning. He thought to himself, “Why would i allow a cat in my life?? What does this meant?? How will i know it’s meaning..” There was a old wise man who used to follow that saint. One day he met his disciple and got into discussion. Disciple told him about last words. Just listening to those words old man realized it’s meaning and said, “You don’t know it’s meaning because you don’t know whole story..”

Old man then started story.. Once a young man renounced from his life of worldly pleasure and came to mountains to live a secluded life as a saint. He would roam around looking for food and water for his basic need. There was a village near by and soon people learned about that saint. Saint was respected by villagers and soon they built him a small hut. Saint started to live in that hut. Saint had only 2 cloths and nothing else. Soon trouble arise for him as some rat came into hut and started to chew away on those two clothes. In meantime, one of villagers got to know about this trouble.

Saint was no longer troubled by rats but now his problem was that he needed milk or food to feed his cat. Now, saint had to go to village to get milk for cat. After few days, villagers thought that it would lot of trouble for saint to come to village daily for milk to feed his cat. So they collected fund and bought him a cow. It was solution for cat’s milk but now saint had to go to village and beg for grass for his cow.. Villagers said it’s not right and thought that if we look for someone who can look after things for saint then it won’t be so troublesome for him.

With time young saint and widow grew fond of each other and love started to bloom between them. Before saint could even realized he was married to that lady and had children. And then he thought to himself, “My god, that’s what I had left behind! I have renounced the world — this is the whole world again! It grew so slowly that I was not aware until the children came.” Old man said, “Just because of that cat whole world came in..!! That’s why he told you not to allow a cat in your life.. He was talking about his own life story..”

Man thought to himself that old man look like right person to ask his question. So he said, “Can i ask you a question?” Old man replied, “Sure.” Man then said, “I want to be a disciple of a Perfect Master. Can you suggest to me where i should go? Where can i find him?” Old man suggested a few address to him. Young man thanked him went on. Man wandered for thirty years around the earth and he found no body who was up to his expectations. He fell at his feet and said, “Why didn’t you say it to me, that you are the Master?” Old man said, “But that was not time for you. You couldn’t recognize me at that time. You needed some experience. Wandering around earth has given you a certain maturity, a certain understanding. Now you can see. Last time you met me but you had not see me. You had missed. You were asking me about some Master.

That was enough proof that you couldn’t see me, couldn’t feel my presence, you couldn’t smell the fragrance. You were utterly blindly, hence i gave you some addresses, so you could go but even to be with wrong people is good because that how one learns. For thirty years i have been waiting for you, i have not left this place, this tree.” Young man was not young anymore, looked at tree and even more surprised because at that time he remembered that in his dreams, in his visions he was always seeing that tree and there was always a feeling that he would find his Master sitting under this tree. He realized that thirty years back, he didn’t see tree, he met Master but couldn’t recognize him. Everything was ready but he was not ready.

Man’s Innocence – Zen Enlightenment Story

Once there was big monastery, where lived 500 monks. They were all practicing path of self remembering under their Master. One day a man went to monastery to become disciple. Master accepted him as disciple but because he was simple, uneducated man from village, Master gave him job of rice cleaning in kitchen. Monastery kitchen was big. Poor man used to wake up before sunrise and would go late into night doing his work of cleaning rice. He had no time left to attend sermons, prayers or read scripture or listen to wise talks. All monks at monastery were great scholar and were known all over country.

Twenty years passed. Poor man continued just cleaning rice, doing nothing else. In all these years, he even forgot to count years, days, dates and even became suspicious of his own name because for twenty years nobody had said his name or called him by his name. For whole twenty years, he was doing only one small thing – cleaning rice for monastery kitchen. One day Master of monastery declared that his time to depart from the body has come. It was time for him to chose his successor.

He said, “Anybody who thinks that he had succeeded in self-remembering should write on wall of my hut, insight which shows he had seen the truth.” Some scholars wrote but no one had signed, None of them had courage to sign his name out of fear that what if master wouldn’t like it This went on for days, daily master would erase message saying, “Find out idiot who spoiled my wall.” One day master erased message and said, “None of you has come to point of self-remembering. You all have been feeding your ego in name of self. I reminded you again and again but having a big ego is joy.

Now i will have to find person myself.” In middle of night master went to man who had been cleaning rice for twenty years. For twenty years master had not seen him. Master woke him up. Because in twenty years he had just seen him once for few seconds when he was initiated. Man asked master, “Who are you? Why are you disturbing my sleep?” Master said, “I am your master. Have you forgotten? What’s your name?” Man replied, “This is difficult.

Work you have given me is such that it needs no name, no fame, no austerities. It is so simple that i have forgotten everything. I don’t remember my name. A few name comes to my mind but i can not decide which one is mine but i am grateful to you. ” He touched his Master’s feet for blessings. Seeing his master after so long, he thought may be there was complain with his work or something is wrong. He said, “Please don’t change my job. I have forgotten everything but i have also achieved everything. I know peace that i had never dreamed of. A silence that no words can express. I have known such moments of ecstasy that even if i had died here right now, i wouldn’t have any complaint that life has not been fair to me. It has given me more than i was worthy of.

Please don’t change my job. I am doing it perfectly well. Has somebody complained about my work?” Master smiled and said, “No, nobody has complained. But still your job has to be changed because am choosing you as my successor.” Man hesitantly replied, “But i am only a rice cleaner. I don’t know anything about being Master or a disciple. Please forgive me but i can’t be your successor. I can not handle such big job.” Master still insisted, “You have achieved which other’s have been trying to achieve but have failed. You have achieved it because you are not trying. You were simply doing your work. Slowly, there was no need for thinking, emotions, anger, fight, compassion, ambition.. Your ego died and with ego your name died. You are not born with a name. It is the ego that is given a name – that is the beginning of the ego. With the death of the ego, you even forgot your own master because it was the ego that brought you to me.

You are absolutely right person to take my robe, hat and sword.. which i always carry with me and was given to me by my master. But remember one thing – Take them and escape from this monastery as far as you can because if you stay here your life will be in danger. All these egoist will kill you. You are so simple and you have become so innocent that if they ask you for the robe, the sword, the cap, you will give them. So, simply take them and go as far as you can into mountain. Soon people will start arriving to you, just as bees start finding their way toward flowers when flower blossom. Because you have blossomed.

You need not to bother about disciples. You simply remain silently in faraway place. People will come to you.” Man replied, “But.. But.. I have received no teaching and i don’t know what to teach them.” Master said, “Just teach them to do small things, silently, peacefully, without any ambition, without any motivation to gain something in this world or in the other world, so that you can become innocent like a child.”

Buddha Sleeping – Disciple Question

Just nearby, in the Ajanta caves, in the last cave there is a sculpture of Gautam Buddha sleeping. That pose has become known as the “Lion’s pose” because the lion also sleeps on its side without moving. When
Buddha was alive, he used to sleep in same posture, whole night. He wouldn’t move from side to side or even an inch from his sleeping position. One of Gautam Buddha’s disciple named Ananda was very much troubled because of this. Every night he could see that Buddha was still. Sometimes, in middle of night he would wake up and would see that Buddha was still in same position, absolutely still, just as he had always been.

One night he couldn’t resist his curiosity and went to Buddha while he was sleeping. He wake him up and said, “I know it’s not good to disturb you at night because whole day you have been walking and teaching but i couldn’t wait for morning to ask you this. For twenty years i have been watching you, i have waited for long but know i have to ask to you about it anyway. Please tell me, how do you manage to remain in same posture that you go to sleep in, in same posture for whole night? Do you sleep or do you simply go on keeping that posture. Because i have to move continuously, I can’t sleep still whole night.” Gautam Buddha said. “I have found the right posture. Now, there is no need to change it and i am awake as anyone even when my body is asleep. I have found the right posture for body but you are still searching for it. It is not simply a question of tossing and turning the body. it is because your mind is tossing and turning.

I have gone beyond – There is no mind when i go to sleep. The body simply lies down like a corpse. Have you even seen any corpse changing its posture?” Learning: It is your Mind. Once your Mind is at Rest, Once it Disappears, your Body can remain Asleep but your Inner Eye, your Inner Sensitivity, your Awareness, can remain Burning like a Small flame – not only Watching your body but also Watching the Silent mind and the Stillness surrounding you. The Enlightened man cannot Sleep in the same way that the Unenlightened one sleeps. When the Unenlightened man sleeps, he is simply Unconscious where as the Enlightened man sleeps but he is Not unconscious.

Buddha and King Story..!

Once a great King decided to go meet Buddha for first time. His wife had been a lay-disciple of Buddha for long time even before she was married to King. When Buddha came to King’s capital, wife said to King, “It doesn’t look right that when a man like Buddha comes to your capital, you won’t even go to welcome him. Therefore, i am going. When i meet him, he is sure to ask about you. What should is say then?” King thought for a moment and said, “OK, I will also come to welcome him to our kingdom but i am meeting him for first time, i would like to give him some present.” King then proudly said, “I have a very precious diamond, no one else have that. If i take it as gift then Buddha will appreciate it.”

Wife started laughing and said, “Rather than diamond, it would be better if you take just a fresh lotus flower from pond. I have known and following him for long, therefore i know that to Buddha lotus flower is more beautiful than a diamond. Buddha is a Sanyasi, what will he do with diamond. It will be an unnecessary burden.” King replied, “OK, then i will take both and let us see what Buddha will take and who wins.” Buddha was going to start his morning talks, surrounded by thousand of monks who were waiting to listen to him. Just then King came on his golden chariot to the commune of Buddha. King stepped out of his chariot and walked toward Buddha. With him he was carrying gift for Buddha. He bowed down to Buddha and offered him the diamond. Buddha said, “Drop it!!” King knew that diamond was very precious and it was very difficult for him to drop his diamond.

Buddha again said, “Drop it.!” He hesitated but he was surrounded by thousand of monks and listening to those words, he had no other choice. So King dropped it. Then King offered the lotus flower to Buddha. Again Buddha said, “Drop it!!” King thought, “Is this man crazy?” and dropped lotus flower too. Buddha said, “Don’t you listen? Drop it.!” King replied, “But both my hands are empty. Now what do you want me to drop?” At that moment, one of old disciples of Buddha said,”You don’t understand. Buddha is not asking you to drop things you are holding in your hand. Buddha is saying – Drop your personality, Drop that your are King, Drop this mask, Be just Human because through the mask it is impossible for Buddha to approach you.” King never thought about it.

But then great silence and King felt something and spontaneously fell at the feet of Buddha. Now, Buddha said, “That’s what i have been telling you: Drop it. Now sit down. Be just human, here nobody is emperor, nobody is beggar. Here everybody is himself. Just be yourself.”

Anxiety Solution – Zen Master Bokuju

Once lived a Zen master Bokuju. He used to live inside cave alone most of time. He would sometimes loudly say, “Bokuju” his own name and the himself would say, “Yes, I am here.” He would this anytime, day or night. There were some disciples who used to follow him. They would hear this. Disciples were not able to understand it’s reason. So, one day one of his disciple asked him, “Why do you call your own name and then reply yourself to this.”

Bokuju replied, “Wherever i get into thinking, i have to remember myself to be alert, so i call my own name ‘Bokuju’ loudly and moment i can ‘Yes, i am here’.. All the thinking and anxiety disappears.” When Bokuju got old, in his last days for two or three years, he never called out his own name. Disciple asked, “Master you used to say your name all the time but now, you never do this. Why so?” Bokuju replied, “Because Bokuju is always here. He is always there, there for there is no need to call him. Previously anxiety would take me, cloud all over me. So i had to call ‘Bokuju’ and that moment anxiety would disappear.”

Learning: You have to come to deep knowing of Your Own self and Mechanism of Inner Working. If you Become Alert, Anxiety will disappear.

Monk with his eyes closed, he sensed his anger rising and by time he was about to open his eyes, he was ready to scream at the boat man who dared to disturb his meditation. But when he opened his eyes, he saw an empty boat that probably untethered and floated to the middle of lake. At that moment, monk understood that the anger is with in him and it merely needs bump of an external object to provoke it out of him. From then on, Whenever he came across someone who would irritated him or provoke him to anger, he would remind himself, “Other person is merely an empty boat, anger is with in me.”

Master took a large paper and wrote, “Father dies, son dies, grandson dies.” When rich man read that paper he got angry at master and said, “Master i asked you to write something that could bring happiness and prosperity then why would you write and give me something so depressing?” Master Explained, “If your son dies before you that would bring unbearable grief to your family. Similarly if your grandson dies before your son, it would also bring great sorrow to your family. But if your family generations after generations disappear in order i described, it would be Natural course of life and That would be True Happiness and Prosperity.” Rich man now understood what master meant and thanked him for his blessings.

Try to See Yourself..!!
Once Japanese master said to his disciples, “When you look at your companions, try to see yourself..” One of disciple questioned, “But Master.. Isn’t that an awful selfish attitude?? If we see ourselves in everyone, we will always be just concerned about ourselves and we will never be able to see good in others..” Master replied, “If only… We did always see good in others..!!”

Master continued, “Truth is when we look at other, we are only looking for defects. We always try to discover their wicked side. Just because we want to feel good for ourselves. We want them to be worse than us. We never forgive because we do no believe that we would have been forgiven. We hurt others with harsh words, when all we are doing is hiding ourselves. That’s why when ever you judge someone be aware that you are the one who is on trial..”

The amount of pain in life remains the same but the amount we taste the “pain” depends on the container we put it into. So when you are in pain, the only thing you can do is to enlarge your sense of things. Stop being a glass. Become a lake.”

Barber was an atheist and said, “I don’t believe that God exist..” Client replied, “Why do you say that?” Barber said, “Look, if God existed then why would be there so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children?

If God existed, would there have been so much suffering and pain? I don’t think if God existed he would have permitted all these things to happen..” Client stopped arguing. Barber was happy to win that argument and finished his job. After his hair was done, client went outside. Just after man left barbershop, he saw a man in street with long untidy hair and beard. It looked like person was homeless and he hadn’t had got any hair cut from long time. Client again went to barber shop with that man and said, “You know what.. barber’s do not exist..!!” Barber was confused and said, “How can you say that..? I am Barber..” Client exclaimed, “No..!! They don’t exist because if they did there would be no people with long hair and beard like this man who walks in the street.” Barber laughed and said, “If people don’t come for hair cut then it’s not barber’s fault..” Client affirmed, “Exactly..!! That’s the point. God does exist, what happens is people don’t go to Him and do not look for Him that’s why there’s so much pain and suffering in the world..”

Benefits of Chanting God’s Name

Once a sage who was on pilgrimage came to a village. Just on outskirt of village, there was a temple. Sage decided to stay in that temple for a while. Few days passed by, villagers got familiar with that ascetic and started to come to meet him. With time villagers started to come to meet him for help and suggestion. People started to share their problems and clear their doubts about spirituality. Sometime, he would conduct spiritual discourse for villagers.

Once in a discourse, he said, “Always remember, one cannot be totally happy with enjoyment to all five senses. Hence, one should accept every situation in life, be satisfied with whatever one has and concentrate his mind towards chanting God’s Name. He should serve God selflessly. True Bliss lies only in God.” Hearing this one of villager got up and angrily said, “It’s easy to say that one should not go after five senses but practically it’s not possible.

I have three children, daughter is 23 yr old and i am still not able to find groom for her. My 19 yr old son yet have to complete his education and my youngest is 12 yr old.
My salary is not enough to take care of all needs of my family and because of this my wife also have lots of stress.. Now, in such situation.. how can you expect me not to worry and chant God’s name..?” Hearing this, sage smiled and replied, “Will your problem be solved by worrying?? How many problems you were able to solve by worrying?? Even when we are aware of fact that, no problems can be solved by worrying, do we stop worrying?? If instead to worrying about all this, you divert your mind towards chanting God’s name then you will be able find way to come out all of these worries.. God is always there for us and chanting God’s name can bring peace to our mind and we can try to work out situations better way.. Hence, one should find sometime from his busy schedule to Chant God’s name…” Villager understood and bowed down before sage and thanked him for his wise words.

Price of A Miracle – Little Girl Heart Touching Story

Tess, eight year old girl, who heard her mom and dad talking about her little brother, Andy. All she could understand was that her brother was very sick and her parents were completely out of money. Her parents were talking about how costly surgery was and it was looking like there was no one to loan them money. Just then she heard, dad said to her tearful mother with whispered desperation, “Only a miracle can save him now.” Listening to this Tess went to her bedroom and bought out her piggy bank from its hiding place in closet. She broke it and collected all that money. She carefully counted it.

She took a small purse, placed coins in it and slipped out of back door and made her way six blocks to Drug store. She waited patiently for pharmacist to give her some attention but he was too busy at this moment. She made some noise with her feet to grab attention but nothing. Then she cleared her throat with most disgusting sound she could muster but still no good. Finally she took a quarter from her pocket and banged it on glass counter and that did it. She got pharmacist attention. Pharmacist asked in annoyed tone of voice, “And what do you want?” Without waiting for reply to his question, he said, “I am busy. I am talking to my brother whom i haven’t seen in ages.” Tess answered back, “Well, i want to talk to you about my brother. He is really sick… and i want to buy a miracle.” “I beg your pardon?”, said pharmacist. Tess said, “His name is Andy and he has something bad growing inside his head and my dad says only a miracle can save him now. So how much does a miracle cost?” “We don’t sell miracles here, little girl. I am sorry but i can’t help you.”, said pharmacist in softening a little.

Tess replied, “I have money to pay for it. If it isn’t enough, i will get the rest. Just tell me how much it costs.” Pharmacist brother who was standing there, seeing all this, he stooped down and asked little girl, “What kind of miracle does your brother need?” “I don’t know.”, Tess replied with tears in her eyes, “I don’t know. I just know that he is really sick and my mommy says that he needs an operation but my dad can’t pay for it, so i want to use my money.” “How much do you have?”, he asked. Tess answered, “One dollar and eleven cents… It’s all i have but i can get some more if i need to.” He smiled and said, “Well, what a coincidence.

A dollar and eleven cents is exact price of a miracle for little brother.”
Then he took her money in one hand and with other hand he grasped her mitten and said, “Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Let’s see if I have the kind of miracle you need.” That man, pharmacist brother was Dr. Carlton Armstrong, a surgeon, specializing in neurosurgery. Little girl’s brother operation was completed without any charge and it wasn’t long until Andy was hone again and doing well. Tess mom and dad were happily talking about chain of events that took place. Her mom whispered, “That surgery, i wonder how much it would have cost. That surgery was a real miracle.” Tess smiled, she knew exactly how much a miracle cost… one dollar and eleven cents… plus faith of a little child.

I make 100rs. an hour.” With his head down son replied, “Oh! Few minutes later when man calmed down and started to think about conversation with his boy, he thought, “May be there was something he really wanted to buy with that money because he really didn’t ask for money very often.”

Man went to little boy’s room and opened door. He went near boy and asked, “Are you asleep, son?” Boy replied, “No daddy, I am awake.” Man said, “I have been thinking that maybe i was too hard on you earlier. Here’s money you asked for.” Saying this father gave little boy 50rs note. Little boy sat straight up, smiling, he yelled, “Oh. Thank you daddy!” Then reaching out under his pillow, he pulled out some cramped up bills. When man saw that boy already had money, he started to get angry. Little boy slowly counted his money. Father grumbled, “Why you asked for money if you already have some?”

Little boy replied, “Because i didn’t had enough but now i do.” Then boy giving that money to his father said, “Daddy, i have 100rs. now. Can i buy an hour of you time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.” Father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son and felt sorry for getting angry at him. Sculptor Father and Son Motivating Story about Work

Once in a village lived a young sculptor, who used to make very beautiful statues and by this work he earned a good income. He had a son who started making statues from his childhood, even his son used to make good statues. Father would get happy to his son work but every time he used to point out one or other mistakes in his son work. Still his son never complained and continued to improve his work, following the advice of his father. Because of son continuous improvement, his work started becoming better than his father’s. Then a time came when people started to buy his statues paying more money while his father statues continued to be sold at its earlier price.

Son got young and was earning better but still his father used to point out mistakes in his son work. Now son didn’t like it, he used to accept his shortcoming and would improve but didn’t work wholeheartedly. Then one day, son lost his patience and said,”You are pointing out my mistakes as if you are a big sculptor but if that’s case then your statues would have sell at higher price than mine. I don’t think i need your advice anymore. My work my statues are perfect.” After that day, father stopped giving any advice or pointing out any mistakes in his statues. For some months son was happy but then he realized that now people don’t praise his work as they used to. His statues rate also started to fall. Son couldn’t understand the reason. So, one day he went to his father and told him about his problem.

Father listened to it but didn’t say anything. Then son said, “Did you know that this was going to happen?” Father replied, “Yes! because many years ago i had to face such situation too.” Then son said, “Then why didn’t you explained it to me?”
Father replied, “Because you didn’t want to understand at that time. I know i can’t make statues as beautiful as yours. It is possible that sometime my advice wouldn’t have been right one, nor is it that because of my advice you were able to make better statues. But when i used to show flaws in your statues, then you yourself would not feel satisfied with your own work and tried to improve yourself even more. That determination of doing better and improving your work more was the reason for your success.

But when you got satisfied with your own work and thought that your work is perfect, your growth stopped. People always expected better from you and that’s reason your work was not appreciated anymore and you were not getting much money for them.” Son listened to his father and kept silent for a while and then asked, “What should i do now?” Father replied, “Learn to be dissatisfied. Think that there is room for you to get better than present work. This one thing will inspire you to be better always.”

Still traveler got curious and asked, “Is this a custom India, when guest arrives at your house?” Chanakya questioned, “What custom?” Traveler replied, “I mean extinguishing one lamp and lighting up another lamp?” Chanakya replied, “No, my dear friend.

Woman Reply to Chanakya..!

Chanakya was insulted at King Nanda’s kingdom and he wanted to take revenge for his insult. Soon, he meet a child name Chandragupta who was bright. Chanakya started to teach him.

Seema thought of him as a stalker and started running faster with her daughter, ignoring shouts from behind. She was near exit and saw that vendor was still following them.
Seema walked more fast and stopped a taxi. She hurriedly pushed her daughter inside taxi and then herself got seated just before vendor could reach them. She closed taxi door and asked driver to step on ignition.

Vendor reached them just before taxi could took off. He was tapping on the taxi door non stop, seema tried to ignored it just then a flash of shiny thing caught her attention. When she looked at vendor side she saw that it was a bracelet and she immediately recognized it. It was her daughter’s. Seema rolled down window of car and instantly that vendor handed out that bracelet to seema through that window and said, “Mam.. your daughter gave me that bracelet before getting off that train.”

Just before leaving that vendor pulled a packet of snack out of his bag and gave it to her daughter saying, “It’s for child..” Before she could say anything vendor had left and taxi took off. Seema realized her mistake and learned a lesson for life. She was happy to know that her daughter have a good heart but felt guilty to think wrong of that vendor just because of his appearance. Priest Rescue Story – God’s Ways to Help

Long ago, there was a small village by the river. Everyone lived happily and would regularly go to temple to pray. Once during monsoon season, it rained heavily and because of this river started overflowing, flood entered village. Knowing this everyone started to evacuate village, to go to a safe place. One man ran to temple to inform priest about situation. When man reached temple he said to priest, “Flood water has entered into our homes and soon it will reach temple also. Everyone is leaving village as in no time it will sunk under water! You must come along too..” Priest replied, “You go. I will stay here and wait for God. I served God everyday. Therefore, I trust that God will himself come to save me. I will not leave temple, until God come. You may leave.”

Man still insisted but priest didn’t listen. At last man left. Soon, water entered temple and reached waist height. Priest climbed on the higher platform inside temple. Just then a man with a boat who was passing by, saw priest in temple and came to rescue priest. He said, “Water has entered temple. I am on my way to safe place. Please climb boat and come with me.” But again priest refused to leave saying that God will come to rescue him. So boatman left. Soon, whole temple was filled with flood water. Priest had to climb to the top of the temple and kept praying to God to save him. Soon, a rescue helicopter came and dropped a ladder for priest and asked him to climb ladder.

Again priest refused to leave by giving same reason. So helicopter left with others. After sometime, even the top of temple was nearly submerged under water. With difficulty priest was keeping his head out of water, he looked up and started complaining, “O God. I worshiped you for all my life and kept my faith in you! Still you didn’t come to save me! Why?” Just then a voice came from sky and said, “Oh mad man, i came to save you three time. I came running to ask you to leave with other, then i came as boat man, then i came with a helicopter! But you refused every time. What is my fault if you didn’t recognize me?” Priest realized his mistake and asked for forgiveness. After this priest got another chance to go to safe place, this time he accepted.

How can you sit quietly when there are children like them who are suffering from hunger..”

Just in next moment a thought struck his mind, “Who had been providing food for them until now?? What i did for those boys, could i have done that with my own thinking??” At that moment he realized and understood that ever we do is just a part of God’s Plan. How to Overcome Jealousy..?

Once there were two good friends Arun and Karan. They were classmates since kindergarden. Arun was always ahead of Karan in all fields be it studies or sports or any extra curricular activities. Arun was always selected to perform in all school programs and was famous throughout school. Karan would endeavor to out-do Arun each time but never succeeded. One day when Karan returned home he had gloomy face. When his mother saw that she said, “Why do you look like a cry baby??” Karan made grumpy face and replied, “It’s all because of Arun. Once again he got higher marks than me and no matter how hard i try but he is always ahead of me.. I don’t understand why i am always lagging behind..”

Mother questioned, “Are you jealous of Arun??” Karan replied, “No.. No why i would be jealous of him. He is my friend..” Mother replied, “Ok.. Listen carefully to what i say and tell me whether you agree or not..?” Karan agreed and started to listen.. Mother continued, “When people praise Arun, you don’t like it. When he loss, you feel happy. Whatever he does, you feel compelled to do it all. You keep seeing negative qualities in him and feel a sense of dislike towards him. You feel like telling others about his negatives. You burn like fire all day long.

Tell me, do you feel all of this?” Karan was stunned with what he heard and said, “It’s true but how did you know about this??” Mother replied, “Your gloomy face shows it all but i have a great solution for you to overcome jealousy..” Karan replied, “What is it?? Please tell me..” Mother replied, “When you heartily appreciate the positive qualities in others, those qualities manifest in you. Our strength increases and by heartily accepting the positive in others, our jealousy for the person dissolves completely. Therefore, you too should appreciate the positive qualities in Arun from the bottom of your heart.” Just listening to this Karan replied with grumpy face, “Positives qualities?? In Arun?? Even if search i cannot find even a single positive quality in him..”

Mother rhetorically asked, “You can’t or you don’t want to find?” Karan looked down speechlessly. Mother said, “Ok.. Tell me when do you start preparing for exam?” Karan replied, “A week before..” Mother asked, “and Arun??” Karan thought and replied, “He studies daily. Once his father told me that Arun always follows his timetable. He has slotted aside time to watch TV, play and chat with friends and he diligently follows the timetable.” Mother replied, “So.. this is known was good management skills and this proves that he is sincere and hardworking..” Karan nodded in yes. Mother than said, “Instead of being jealous, if you appreciate his positive qualities then these qualities will also begin to develop in you.” Karan felt inspired and following that day, he remembered his mother’s teaching.

He began to notice and appreciate Arun’s discipline, sincerity, concentration, hard working qualities. Within no time, he also became sincere and hard working like Arun. Exam results were declared. Karan went home to mother and looked very happy. Mother smiled and said, “What’s matter? You look very happy today..!!” Karan replied, “Yes.. I got results today. Arun again stood first while i came second. Best part is today i am not jealous of him at all. I am happy to see my progress and at same time i am happy with his…” Karan continued, “Thank you.. You have given me the ultimate solution to overcome jealousy. All my energies were lost being jealous. Now, I can steer my strengths onto the path of progress.” Mother was happy and hugged Karan and congratulated him on his good work and progress.

Buddha’s Wisdom (Must Read)

Once Buddha was sitting under a tree. A man came to him and started abusing him. After abusing Buddha that man stood there waiting for some Buddha’s response or reaction but to his surprise there wasn’t even slightest change in Buddha’s expression. Man got more angry and used more insulting words to insult Buddha. Still he didn’t got any reaction or response from him. This kept on going for few hours. At last man got tired and asked Buddha, “I have been abusing you, insulting you yet you are not angry at me??” Buddha replied, “It’s because i haven’t accepted it..” Man got confused and questioned, “But you heard it, every single word.. didn’t you??” Buddha smiled and replied, “I don’t need abuse.. Then why would i hear it??”

Man got more confused and stood there. Buddha understood his confusion and explained it further, “All those abuse remains with you..” Man replied, “I have said all those words to you.. how would it remain with me??” Buddha questioned, “Suppose you give someone coins and if that person doesn’t accept those coins.. then with whom will those coins remain??” Man replied, “If person doesn’t accept those then coins would remain with me..” After listening to man’s reply Buddha smiled and said to him, “You are right..!! Same happened with abuse. When you came here and abused me.. said those insulting words but since i haven’t accepted a single abuse from you.. then all those abuse would remain with you.. So, I have no reason to be angry with you..” Man understood his mistake and apologized to Buddha.

Angry Man Abuses Buddha..!
Once somebody came and started insulting and abusing Buddha. Buddha listened silently. When man walked away, one of disciples asked Buddha, “Why did you remain silent?” Buddha said, “Once I was passing through a forest and a branch of a tree fell on me. What do you think? Should I beat that branch of the tree because it hurt me, it wounded me?”

Disciple replied, “There is no question of beating the branch. It had no desire to hurt you, it had no desire to fall on you. It was just a natural accident that you happened to be under the tree when the branch fell.” Buddha said, “If somebody Insults me, that is also the same. I simply happened to be there and that man was full of Anger. If I had not been there he would have been angry with somebody else. It was his nature. He was following his nature. I followed my nature.”

Old Man’s Age – Four year..!

Once there was great King, who had come to see Buddha. He was sitting by Buddha’s side talking to him. Just then an old man came, bowed down and touched Buddha’s feet. Buddha asked old man, “How old are you?” Old man replied, “Just four years old.” King couldn’t believe his ears and thought to him self, “Old man looks almost eighty, if not more and yet he is saying that he is four years old. May be i had mistaken in listening.” So King said, “Pardon me sir, can you please repeat it again, How old are you?” Old man again said, “Four years old.” Buddha understood King’s confusion and said, “You don’t know the way we Count Life: It is four years ago that he became a sannyasi, that he was initiated into the Eternal, that he was taken into the Timeless. It is only four years ago that he crossed from this Shore and reached to the other shore. He has lived for eighty years but those years are not worth counting.”

Seeing this farmer got angry and said, “I worked in fields, i ploughed and sow and there for i eat. It would be better if you were in like manner to plough and to sow, and then you would have food enough to eat without begging.” Buddha smile and replied, “Don’t get angry.. I plough and sow too.. and having ploughed and sown, I eat.”

Farmer replied, “If it’s true then where are your bullocks and seed?? Where is your plough?? I see no sign of it..!!” Buddha answered, “Faith is the seed I sow and good works are the rain that fertilizes it. Wisdom and good works are the parts of the plough, and my mind is the guiding rein. I lay hold of the handle of the Law; earnestness is the goad I use and diligence is my daughter. Thus my ploughing is done, destroying the weeds of delusion. The harvest that it yields is the ambrosia-fruit of Nirvana, and by this ploughing all sorrow ends.”

For nothing but his own unbroken efforts after right doing and right thinking can avail a man..” Buddha’s word sank deep into man’s soul and he understood that, “Pure heart and upright ways which are of far higher value than a sacrifice necessitating the shedding of blood.” Man decided that all those animals should be given freedom and instead f being slaughter they should be left free to live their lives at their own will.

Knots in Relationships? Buddha Teaching

Once Buddha came to preach his disciples. He had a beautiful piece of cloth (like handkerchief) in his hand. Disciples were surprised as it was very unusual to see Buddha with anything in his hands. When Buddha was addressing everyone, he started tying knots in that piece of cloth. After tying four to five knots in that piece of cloth, he showed it to everyone and asked them, “Is this same piece of cloth which i had bought initially or is there any difference?” One of disciples said, “Lord, it’s same but it condition had changed.”

Buddha said, “Correct. Now if i wish, is it possible for me to bring condition of this cloth back to it’s original form?” Another disciple replied, “Lord, it is possible but you will have to untie all the knots from that piece of cloth.” Buddha asked, “How would you untie the knots? Will knots be untied by pulling the piece of cloth?” Another disciple replied, “Lord, if we observe carefully and figure out exactly how knots have been tied then it will be easier to untie the knots. But if we don’t know that and try pulling the cloth from both side then we might make the knots tighter.” Buddha said, “Exactly. Many time we argue and quarrel with our friends and family. If we insist that only we are right then knots become stronger.” Then, as Buddha untied knots, he explained, “If we analyze reason behind knots and without expecting anything from other person, try to remove root cause of knots then we can easily untie all the knots. Relationships become smooth just like this piece of cloth.”

Moral: Let us Try not to ha ve Expectations from others, be Happy with what We have and make others Happy too.

Karma Stories – Why do We Suffer?

The fruit of the unknown Karma…? Long time ago, a King invited Brahmans for Bhoj (feast). Bhoj was organized on large scale so the kitchen was set up outside in open area of palace. On day of Bhoj while Cook was preparing food for Brahmans, an eagle flew over that kitchen with a snake clutched in his claws. Snake who was clutched in eagle’s claws spit out poison to free it self from eagle’s but a few drops of poison got mixed in the food which was being prepare for Brahmans.

No one noticed anything and food was served. As a result Brahmans who came to eat, died eating poisonous food. Now when the king came to know of the death of all Brahmans, he got very sad and every other person in palace also got sad because of unfortunate event because of which Brahmans got killed. Case was brought to Yumraj. In such situation it was difficult for Yumraj to decided that to whose account Karma of this sinful act should this be added.. 1. King – who didn’t knew that food became poisonous. 2. Chef – who didn’t know that it food got poisoned while cooking. 3. Snake – who spit poison in his self defense. 4. Eagle – who flied over king’s palace holding snake in his paws. For many day case remained pending in Yumraj’s file. After sometime, some Brahmans came to Kingdom to meet King. On way they asked a lady about way to palace. Lady told them way and at same time said, “Take Care going there… King of this kingdom kill Brahmans like you, by poisoning them through food they eat.” Just as woman said there words, Yumraj took a decision. He said that death of those Brahmans should be added to karma of this lady.

She have to suffer to consequences of this sin. Chitrgupt (Yumraj Assistant) got confused and said, “But Lord, this lady had nothing to do with that unfortunate event then why?” Yumraj replied, “When someone sins, he get great joy in it but when those Brahman got killed it didn’t bring joy to King, nor to chef, nor eagle, nor that snake but this woman got pleasure by telling about that sinful act. Therefore, consequences of that sinful act which was unknowingly done by that King will now add into this woman’s karma.

Moral: In our life we often think that we haven’t done anything wrong yet why we have to suffer?? When some sinful act is done by someone and we declaim about their sinful act, a part of that sinful act is added to our own Karma and then we have to suffer because of consequences of that sinful act. Therefore, we should not declaim about any sinful act of other’s.

Two Friends Story (How Karma Works..!)

Once there were two friends, One was Gurmeet and other was Manpreet. They were very good friends. Gurmeet believed in God but Manpreet didn’t. Gurmeet would wake up early in morning, take bath and recite holy hymns and was always engaged in doing good works while Manpreet would stay in bed sound asleep and spend whole day playing around. Once they were travelling through forest and as they were passing through forest, Manpreet found a bag of coal. Manpreet was very happy to found that bag as he could sell it and make some money. As they walked further while talking about how lucky Manpreet was, Gurmeet screamed with pain. It appeared that a splinter got stuck in Gurmeet’s foot.

While Gurmeet was in pain, suddenly Manpreet started laughing. Gurmeet was surprised to see him laugh and asked, “Why are you laughing?” Manpreet replied, “You have been worshiping God everyday and what you got as a result, a splinter in your foot where as i have never worshiped God and yet got a bag full of coal.” At that time, an old Sage happened to pass by. Old Sage heard Manpreet’s comment and stopped near them. He had a big smile on his face.

Manpreet was astonished to see that Sage’s smile. Manpreet asked Sage about reason for his smile. Old man replied, “You are naive. You were destined to find a bag full of diamonds today if you have been worshiping God and doing good works but you got only bag of coal. Where as your friend was destined to be harmed severely but got splinter in his foot just because he had been worshiping God severe physical loss simply turned into small pain caused by splinter.”

Moral: We should Live our Life doing Good because God is always watching us and will always be there for us in Our Difficult times.

He said to master, “A large chain store had opened across the way and it would drive me out of business. My family had been running this shop for centuries and i don’t any other skill. If my shop get closed that it would be a great loss to our family and to lose it now would be his undoing” Master replied, “If you fear the owner of chain store that you will hate him and then hatred will be your undoing..”

“Then what shall i do??”, Asked distraught grocer. Master smiled and replied, “Each morning walk out of your shop onto the sidewalk and bless your shop, wishing it prosperity then turn to face the chain store and bless it too.” Grocer got confused and questioned, “What?? I should bless my competitor??” Master replied, “Any blessing you give him will rebound to your good. Any evil you wish him will destroy you.” Grocer left and did as his master said. After six months the grocer returned to report that he had had to close down his shop as he had feared but he was now in charge of the chain store and his affairs were in better shape than ever before.

Zen Master Story – Salt in Lake.!

Once a young man was very unhappy with his life. He felt depressed and terrible all the time. He got to know about a zen master in near by town. One day he decided to visit master and ask for solution. Young man went to him and said, “I have so many problems in life that i am always sad. Please tell me solution.. How can i be happy??” Master listened to him carefully then got up. Young man was confused to see him leaving without saying any thing but he waited for him. After a while master came back with a glass of water and a bowl full of salt. Master asked that young man to take a handful of salt from that bowl and put it in the glass and then drink that water. Young man was confused but did as instructed by master.

Master asked, “How does it taste..?” Young man replied, “It’s terrible.. All i could taste was salt..” Now master asked that young man to take a handful of salt and come with him. They both went to near by lake. Master said, “Now put this salt in the lake.. ” Young man swirled his handful of salt into the lake. After this master asked him to drink water from the lake. Young man took some water and drank. Now master asked, “How does it taste??” Young man replied, “It tastes good..” Master questioned again, “Were you able to taste salt in this water??” Young man replied, “No..” Master and young man sat near that lake. Master took his hands and said, “The pain of life is pure salt.. No more, No less. The amount of pain in life remains the same but the amount we taste the “pain” depends on the container we put it into. So when you are in pain, the only thing you can do is to enlarge your sense of things. Stop being a glass. Become a lake.”

The Photographic Elephant Perseverance

There was once an elephant who wanted to be a photographer. How his friends would laugh when they heard him talk about it!

- "How silly," said some, "there aren't any cameras for elephants!"
- "What a waste of time," others would say, "there's nothing to photograph here anyway..."
But the elephant kept following his dream, and, piece by piece, he managed to cobble together some old bits of junk and some spare parts, and ended up with a camera of sorts. With this camera, the elephant had to design practically everything himself, from a button he pressed with the end of his trunk, to a lens made to fit an elephant's eye, to a load of wrought iron used to make a frame so the elephant could attach the camera to his head.
When it was all finished, he could finally get to taking his first photos. However, the elephant camera was so enormous and strange-looking that it seemed like some huge ridiculous mask. So many people laughed as he went by that the elephant began to think of abandoning his dream... Even worse, it was beginning to look like those who had said there was nothing to photograph there had been right...

But things worked out differently. The sight of the elephant walking about with the camera on his head was so funny that no one could help but laugh when they saw him. And, using a great deal of good humour, the elephant managed to take some really amusing, incredible pictures of all the animals. In his photos they always looked joyful; even the moody rhino! So the elephant managed to become the official savannah photographer, and animals would come from every direction to have some nice photos taken for their passport to the zoo.
Let's work on this story, now that is fresh on our minds!

A minute for thinking

Despite what they say, the elephant decided to try his dream of being a photographer. Do you realize that sometimes we give up a good idea even without having tried it? Has this happened to you before?
Let's talk!
Tell your child one of your childhood dreams, and what you had to do achieve it. If you still have any important childhood dream to achieve, you could try it with the help of your child. This way you will be encouraging him to pursue his own dreams.
Why don't you try this?
To learn not to give up without trying, seek a little dream that motivates your child and try to achieve it. One way to use this story to encourage your kid is to use a wall to stick up the pictures the elephant would have taken with advances throughout the entire process

The Cockerel, the Duck, and the Mermaids Perseverance

A cockerel and a duck were arguing so much over whether mermaids exist or not, that they decided to settle the matter once and for all, by searching the bottom of the sea.
They dived down, first seeing colourful fish, then medium-sized fish and large fish. Then they got so deep that they were in complete darkness and couldn't see a thing.
This made them terribly scared, so they returned to the surface. The cockerel was terrified and never wanted to return to the depths, but the duck encouraged him to keep trying. To calm the cockerel, this time the duck took a torch. They dived down again to the darkness, and when they started getting scared, they switched the torch on.

When the darkness was lit up they saw that they were totally surrounded by mermaids.
The mermaids told them that they thought the cockerel and the duck didn't like them. The previous time the mermaids had been just about to invite their visitors to a big party, but the cockerel and the duck had quickly left.
The mermaids were very happy to see that they had returned, though.
And thanks to their bravery and perseverance, the cockerel and the duck became great friends with the mermaids.

A Spider in the Museum Perseverance

A Spider in the Museum,   a story about Detachment from things, generosity
Once upon a time, there was a painting spider, one of those artistic species of spider, that live in the basements of museums and galleries. They live there alongside paintings left and forgotten for years; certainly a suitable place to spin the most impressive of webs. Our spider spun the best webs in the whole museum, and his house was really spectacular. All his efforts went into looking after the web, which he considered to be the most valuable in the world.
However, as time went on, the museum set about reorganising its paintings, and it started making space upstairs to put some of the basement paintings on display. Many of the basement spiders realised what was happening, and were cautious about it, but our spider paid it no mind:
- "Doesn't matter,"
he would say,
- "it'll just be a few paintings."
More and more paintings were removed from the basement, but the spider carried on reinforcing his web,
- "Where am I going to find a better place than this?"
he would say.
That was, until early one morning when, too quick for him to react, they took his own painting, along with the spider and his web. The spider realised that just for not having wanted to lose his web, he was now going to end up in the exhibition room.
In an act of strength and decisiveness, he chose to abandon his magnificent web, the web he had worked his whole life to build up. And it's a good job he did so, because that way he saved himself from the insect killer they were spraying on the paintings up in the exhibition room.
In his escape, after overcoming many difficulties, the spider ended up in a secluded little garden, where he found such a quiet corner that there he was able to spin an even better web, and became a much happier spider.

Two Frogs: An Inspirational Short Story about Perseverance

Two young frogs fell into a bucket of milk. Both tried to jump to freedom, but the sides of the bucket were steep and no foundation was to be had on the surface of the liquid.
Seeing little chance of escape, the first frog soon despaired and stopped jumping. After a short while, he sunk to the bottom of the bucket and drowned.
The second frog also saw no likelihood of success, but he never stopped trying. Even though each jump seemed to reach the same inadequate height, he kept on struggling. Eventually, his persistent efforts churned some milk into butter. From the now hardened surface of the milk, he managed to leap out of the bucket.
The moral of this little inspiring story:
–Those who don’t give up and persevere may be in for a pleasant surprise!

PERSEVERANCE PAYS OFF

Once there was a low caste boy, Jashan, who was playing with his friends. While playing, he hid inside one of his friend’s house who belonged to higher caste.
As luck may have it, his friend’s father caught him and slapped him thrice. “How dare you enter my house you scoundrel,” screamed his friend’s father and dragged him out of the house.
Jashan somehow regained his senses and returned to his home. He narrated the whole incident to his father who then explained him the difference between low and high class as he was too small to understand the same.
Innocent Jashan asked his father “how can I transform myself from a low class to a high class, papa?”
“Son, if you clear the Indian Administrative Services exam(IAS) exam, everybody will prostrate infront of you”
“I will clear the exam papa and prove that no matter one is born in a low class or a high class family, one can always raise his bar through perseverance and hardwork.”
Jashan’s father hovered his hand over his son’s hair and wished him goodluck for his endeavour.
From the same day onwards, Jashan burned the mid-night oil. Moreover, he neither went out to play with his friends nor did he participate in any cultural activity.
After years of determined hardwork, he was finally able to clear the prestigious exam. Everyone was shocked to hear that a low caste boy had cleared the IAS exam.
Everybody came to congratulate Jashan and his parents. The next day, his home was bombarded by media houses due to which his life-story of immense determination and hardwork reached each and every home in the country.
Seeing Jashan’s inspirational story, his friend’s father reached Jashan’s home and repented for thrashing him only because he was a low caste boy.
Jashan immediately forgave him and also took his blessings.

THE RIGHT TEACHING Perseverance PERSEVERANCE

Once, there was a renowned monk who lived in a beautiful monastery with many of his pupils. His teachings were known to be very effective and many of his students grew up to become great masters themselves.
One day, one of them was caught stealing from his fellow-students and they reported him to the monk. But he took no action against the boy.
A few days later the same boy was again caught stealing. And again the head monk did nothing to punish him.
This angered the other students who drew up a petition asking for the dismissal of the thief. They threatened to leave en masse if the boy was allowed to stay in the monastery.
The teacher called a meeting of the students. When they had assembled, he said to them: “You are good boys who know what is right and what is wrong. If you leave, you will have no trouble in joining some other school. But what about your brother who does not even know the difference between right and wrong? Who will teach him if I don’t? No, I cannot ask him to go even if it means losing all of you.”
Tears coursed down the cheeks of the boy who had stolen. He never stole again and in later life became renowned for his integrity.

THE OLD FISHERMAN PERSEVERANCE

Our house was directly across the street from the entrance of   a popular hospital in the city. We lived downstairs and rented the upstairs rooms to out patients at the clinic. One summer evening as I was fixing supper, there was a knock at the door. I opened it to see a truly awful looking man.
“Why, he’s hardly taller than my eight-year-old,” I thought as I stared at the stooped, shriveled body. But the appalling thing was his face–lopsided from swelling, red and raw. Yet his voice was pleasant as he said, “Good evening. I’ve come to see if you’ve a room for just one night. I came for a treatment this morning from the eastern shore, and there’s no bus ’till the morning.”
He told me he ’d been hunting for a room since noon but he had no success as no one seemed to have a room. “I guess it’s my face. I know it looks terrible, but my doctor says with a few more treatments…”
For a moment I hesitated, but his next words convinced me: “I could sleep in this rocking chair on the porch. My bus leaves early in the morning.” I told him we would find him a bed, but to rest on the porch.
I went inside and finished getting supper. When we were ready, I asked the old man if he would join us “No thank you. I have plenty.” And he held up a brown paper bag. When I had finished the dishes, I went out on the porch to talk with him a few minutes.
It didn ’t take a long time to see that this old man had an oversized heart crowded into that tiny body. He told me he fished for a living to support his daughter, her five children, and her husband, who was hopelessly crippled from a back injury.
He didn ’t tell it by way of complaint; in fact, every other sentence was prefaced with a thanks to God for a blessing. He was grateful that no pain accompanied his disease, which was apparently a form of skin cancer. He thanked God for giving him the strength to keep going.
At bedtime, we put a camp cot in the children ’s room for him. When I got up in the morning, the bed linens were neatly folded and the little man was out on the porch. He refused breakfast, but just before he left for his bus, haltingly, as if asking a great favor, he said, “Could I please come back and stay the next time I have a treatment? I won’t put you out a bit. I can sleep fine in a chair.”
He paused a moment and then added, “Your children made me feel at home. Grownups are bothered by my face, but children don’t seem to mind.” I told him he was welcome to come again.
On his next trip he arrived a little after seven in the morning. As a gift, he brought a big fish and a quart of the largest oysters I had ever seen. He said he had shucked them that morning before he left so that they ’d be nice and fresh. I knew his bus left at 4:00 a.m. and I wondered what time he had to get up in order to do this for us.
In the years he came to stay overnight with us there was never a time that he did not bring us fish or oysters or vegetables from his garden. Other times we received packages in the mail, always by special delivery; fish and oysters packed in a box of fresh young spinach or kale, every leaf carefully washed.
Knowing that he must walk three miles to mail these, and knowing how little money he had made the gifts more precious. When I received these little remembrances, I often thought of a comment our next-door neighbor made after he left that first morning. “Did you keep that awful looking man last night? I turned him away! You can lose roomers by putting up such people!”
Maybe we did lose roomers once or twice. But oh! If only they could have known him, perhaps their illnesses would have been easier to bear. I know our family always will be grateful to have known him; from him we learned what it was to accept the bad without complaint and the good with gratitude.
Recently I was visiting a friend who has a greenhouse. As she showed me her flowers, we came to the most beautiful one of all, a golden chrysanthemum, bursting with blooms. But to my great surprise, it was growing in an old dented, rusty bucket. I thought to myself, “If this were my plant, I’d put it in the loveliest container I had!” My friend changed my mind.
“I ran short of pots,” she explained, “and knowing how beautiful this one would be, I thought it wouldn’t mind starting out in this old pail. It’s just for a little while, till I can put it out in the garden.”
She must have wondered why I laughed so delightedly, but I was imagining just such a scene in heaven. “Here’s an especially beautiful one,” God might have said when he came to the soul of the sweet old fisherman. “He won’t mind starting in this small body.”

Hunting for Smiles PERSEVERANCE

The Princess of the fairies was ill. The doctors could not find what the problem was, but luckily two little dragons managed to find out what was wrong. The problem was that the Princess wasn't seeing anyone smile. So the two little dragons set off around the world, trying to find some smiles. Well, they didn't come across a single one. So off they flew, to the planets, to the stars, searching for a smile.

They travelled so far and for so long, with no success, that one of the dragons decided to head back, so he could be with the Princess when she died, which she surely would soon. But the other dragon decided to carry on, and in the very next planet he visited - a small and dark planet which was hardly visible - he found out an amazing fact: all the smiles in the Universe were right there, gathering for a party. The dragon told the smiles what the problem was, and without hesitation millions of smiles agreed to accompany him on his return home. The dragon arrived, and as soon as the Princess's gaze fell on so many smiles, she instantly regained her health and happiness.

Wonderful Harp Music PERSEVERANCE

There was once a King who adored music so much that he searched the world for the best instrument there was. One day, a wizard offered the King a harp.
The King took it to the palace, but when he started playing it the harp was out of tune. Many other musicians tried it, and they agreed that the harp was useless and the King had been deceived. The harp was thrown out as rubbish.
A poor little girl later found the harp, and even though she didn't know how to play, decided to have a go. She played and played, the whole day through, for months and years, always with the harp out of tune, but playing better and better.
Then one day, suddenly, the harp started to play the most beautiful melodies. It was a magic harp, and could only be played well by someone willing to put in the necessary interest and effort.
The King heard the music from his window, and summoned the girl to the palace. When the King saw the harp playing he was filled with joy. At that moment he made the girl his own private musician, giving her and her family many riches.
